Once you have gone through one of the most difficult parts of motherhood, giving birth, you will probably be full of questions.  This is normal.  Don’t hesitate to ask your pediatrician or lactation consultant if you are having any problems, with babies is not like with adults, and pediatrician’s visit happen more often.

Some tips that could help new mothers to get used to feeding their babies are:

  • Nurse as soon as possible after birth.
  • Use lanolin ointment on nipples after breastfeeding.
  • Avoid artificial nipples.
  • Do not restrict the length or frequency of breastfeeding.
  • Sleep when your baby sleeps.
  • Have a glass of water every time you sit down to nurse -  this will help make sure you’re drinking enough fluids.
  • Use pillows to support you and your baby while breastfeeding.

Pediatrics Anchorage AK pediatrician Dr. Stephen Baker says that the best advice is to relax!  Enjoy every breastfeeding moment with your baby, because it’s a unique and special connection.  And always remember: you and your baby are learning.

You can also use the internet to look for some interest information, like this useful visual guide or some pregnancy blogs to find more about breastfeeding or other new mom issues. When it comes to your baby, here’s never too much information.

Hormone replacement therapy may have received negative publicity over the past ten years, but there are actually several different Hormone Replacement Therapy Houstontypes that can be beneficial for many patients.  Both men and women who are experiences the symptoms of aging may find that treatment at a hormone replacement therapy Houston clinic can alleviate symptoms and help them lead healthier lives.

HRT in the Media
Hormone replacement therapy, often abbreviated HRT, was a standard treatment for the symptoms of menopause for many years.  Menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, irritability and vaginal dryness are due to a drop in the hormone estrogen, and replacing lost estrogen can help relieve the unpleasant symptoms.  HRT (in the form of estrogen plus progestin, a synthetic form of the female reproductive hormone progesterone) was also thought to have long-term benefits for the prevention of osteoporosis, a loss of calcium (and subsequent weakening) in the bones caused by lower-than-normal estrogen levels.

A widespread clinical trial in 2002, however, found that HRT actually put women at an alarmingly increased risk of a number of life-threatening conditions.  Women on hormone replacement therapy programs had much higher rates of heart disease, breast cancer, stroke, blood clots and abnormal mammograms.  Doctors immediately began prescribing the treatment much less often, and the results of the clinical trial frightened many women into stopping treatment without even consulting their physicians.

What is Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy?
Medical clinic Houston IMC recognizes that reproductive hormones are not the only hormones that decline with age, and replacing other lost hormones in the body can help reduce the effects of aging.  Adults suffering from low thyroid hormone levels may experience sleep problems, weight gain, low energy, or hair loss; supplementation with natural thyroid replacements can help these symptoms.  Cortisol, testosterone and DHEA are other common hormones whose supplementation may benefit the patient.

It’s important for patients to pay attention o their bodies and take note when they are experiencing unusual symptoms.  Recognizing low hormone levels is different from recognizing the symptoms of a disease in that patients often attribute their condition to aging or stress or work – but often there is a simple and natural solution with hormone replacement.

As a pediatric chiropractor Franklin TN practitioner Dr. Jennifer Rousseau knows that the complications arising from a baby positioned in the breech (or “head-up” position) can be far-reaching.  A fetus is normally positioned in the womb with the head facing down, allowing the head to emerge first during birth and for the baby to breathe during the entire birth process, a baby positioned in the womb with the head facing upward is a higher-risk delivery.  Aside from oxygen deprivation, a breech baby is also at risk for umbilical cord prolapse (the umbilical cord collapsing into itself), entrapment of the head in the uterus, and injury to the brain.

There are many potential causes for a breech positioning, and c-section or close supervision by an expert medical staff during birth are often the best solutions.  However, as a chiropractor Franklin TN‘s Dr. Jennifer Rousseau is making a new wave in techniques to turn breech babies inside the womb and allow for a healthy, normal delivery.  At her practice Kyd Kyro, Dr. Rousseau has experienced a 97 percent success rate in turning breech babies to the head-down position by using the Webster Technique.  This technique invokes gentle, pleasant chiropractic massage to reposition a misaligned lower back and allow the baby space to move downward.

For more information on the Webster technique and the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy and for children, visit www.kydkyro.com.

In searching for an internist or family doctor Miami Beach patients were once forced to rely on the Yellow Pages, print ads, or simple word-of-mouth to get in touch with a doctor who met their family’s needs.  Today, however, more and more people are searching for a physician online – and the popularity of online doctor rating websites has soared.

How do doctor rating websites work?
These websites offer users a way to rate their physicians, surgeons, cardiologists, and more online as well as see how other physicians measure up.  Patients can search the name of a particular doctor or search for a doctor in a specific area to find a physician who meets their standards of care.  While many sites feature user logins and screennames allowing other users to track a particular rater’s activity, some simply (and conveniently) allow any visitor to fill out an online survey about their physician.

Why should I rate my doctor online?
Rating your doctor online has a number of benefits for you, for other patients, and for your doctor.  It allows you to voice your opinions about the care you recieved, and you can help other patients make the right choices about their care by helping them select a good physician.  It also allows your doctor and your doctor’s staff to see how patients really feel about their office.  These websites, however, seem to provide the most benefit for patients in search of a physician – finding someone with an efficient office, good bedside manner, and access to modern equipment is easy with online reviews from real patients.

As an internist Miami Beach physician Dr. Ronny Aquinin is proud to have earned top marks on sites like HealthGrades.com and Vitals.com.  For more information on Dr. Aquinin’s practice, visit him online at www.ronnyaquininmd.com.

April 8, 2011 (Miami Beach, FL) – After a new a strategic alliance with a top physician in Miami, concierge medical network and executive physical provider EliteHealth is pleased to offer its patients “scarless” surgery for common general surgical procedures – including appendectomy and gall bladder removal surgery.  The procedure is performed via a small incision in the navel (belly button), and patients report less pain and typically recover within 24 to 48 hours after surgery.

On Saturday, March 12th, a thirty-year-old female EliteHealth patient visiting the Miami Beach area from Venezuela was admitted to top Miami Beach hospital Mount Sinai Medical Center with severe abdominal pain.  After the EliteHealth team was called, she was seen at around 3:00p.m. and diagnosed with acute appendicitis.  The patient was seen by surgeon Dr. Irving Jorge, a performer of minimally invasive surgeries and a concierge doctor who has a strategic alliance with EliteHealth.  Dr. Jorge completed the procedure within one hour, and within 48 hours she was experiencing no pain or visible scars and was ready to go home.

Dr. Jorge has been performing minimally invasive surgical procedures to remove the appendix or gallbladder for two years.  The procedure, referred to in medical terminology as single incision laparoscopic surgery (or SILS), is performed by placing a small, single incision in the belly button rather than on the abdomen.  This allows the surgeon to enter the abdominal cavity while disturbing less surrounding tissue and leaving no scars on the stomach.  The scar produced by the incision is well-hidden in the navel and the procedure is thus termed “scarless.”  The procedure is performed almost weekly at Mount Sinai.

The patient was lucky to be under the care of EliteHealth’s concierge medicine services, as she was provided rapid care and offered a surgical alternative to eliminate scarring.  Always in search of top physicians and surgeons to provide the best care to their patients, EliteHealth approached Dr. Jorge to join their team after seeing him perform this procedure and both are looking forward to an excellent relationship.  Beyond excellent emergency care services, EliteHealth offers concierge and corporate healthcare packages – including executive physical and wellness services – for patients who seek the highest-quality and most complete healthcare experience.  They also have a nationwide network of medical offices.  “Scarless” appendectomy procedures can help EliteHealth patients recover and return to their daily lives in 24 to 48 hours.

With more and more patients taking control of their health and demanding better preventative care, the internal medicine Miami Beach community is seeing an increasing number of physicians offering diagnostic testing and procedures in their clinics.  Many of these clinics perform all their patient testing in-house and perform bloodwork and diagnostics within the clinic.

While other clinics may simply draw blood and send it to a lab for testing, performing blood tests within the clinic allows medical staff to efficiently pass samples to the lab.  They can also keep a watchful eye over samples, potentially preventing mix-ups and keeping track of all testing performed.  Samples may also be processed faster, as the time spent sending them out to a lab (not to mention the cost of transportation) is not an issue.

As a family doctor and internist Miami Beach physician Dr. Ronny Aquinin offers premier care at a state-of-the-art facility – and all laboratory testing is performed in the clinic.  Dr. Aquinin and his staff also perform all diagnostic tests on the premises, allowing their patients to enjoy quality preventative care and diagnostic testing without traveling to another location or having tests performed by unfamiliar medical staff.  For more information on Dr. Aquinin and his practice, visit him online at www.ronnyaquininmd.com.

After medical school, many doctors labor over the decision of which specialty to enter as a practicing physician.  There are many advantages – and many disadvantages – to becoming a family physician.  To be a successful and satisfied internal medicine specialist, one must have the right mindset, the right patient care outlook, and the right values.

An internal medicine physician (also called an internist) is an expert in general adult health and may have experience in other sub-specialties.  Like a family care physician, who treats the whole family, an internist provides tests, general health care, and preventative medicine to ensure overall good health.  These two types of physicians will typically see the same patients over the long term and have the opportunity to form strong bonds with their patients and their families.  They will also be at an advantage to provide better care, as they have a comprehensive picture of that family’s health and history.  Families who see the same physician over the long term are also likely to form a strong bond with that doctor, giving the doctor as well as the patients a closer and more satisfying experience.

There are drawbacks, however – a family physician must commit to living in one location his or her entire life in order to build and maintain a strong patient base.   This is a problem for many physicians who wish to work in different environments or who have spouses who move for work.  However, many doctors find themselves well-settled in their environments and are excited by the prospect of building a patient base around a permanent home.  Internal medicine Miami Beach specialist Dr. Ronny Aquinin has a strong following of loyal patients, all impressed with his genuine caring nature and good care.  Dr. Aquinin takes extra time with each of his patients, meeting with them in his private office before and after appointments to discuss their exam and course of action.  As an internist and family doctor Miami Beach‘s Dr. Aquinin provides top care in his state-of-the-art facility as well as house calls and personal calls with his patients.  For more information on Dr. Aquinin’s practice, visit him online.
