Due to the fact that the official, national Tax Day, April 15th, falls on a Sunday and is followed by Emancipations day, the Internal Revenue Service is extended tax deadlines until two days later on April 17th.

The minor changes in place this year include the cessation of The Making Work Pay credit of $400 for individuals and $800 for married couples. Secondly, the energy property credits have been decreased from 30 percent to 10 of the cost of eligible items, and the credit is now cumulative and any past credit used will be subtracted from your 2011 credit. Lastly, standard deductions will be increased to $5,800 for a single person, $11,600 for married couples filing jointly, and $8,500 for the head of household. This is a slight increase from last year.
